Yokoo Wataru (Kis-My-Ft2) - Watta Bento

Watta Bento is a song from the 2nd Disc of Kis-My-Ft2's 2016 album, I SCREAM, written and composed by Asari Shingo. It's a cute little song about Yokoo Wataru cooking a bento for the other members using food ingredients in their member colours. Therefore, he also has the members take part in the song by commenting on the food, by saying Itadakimasu & Watta Bento, and by getting Fujigaya to say the words Wataru no Cooking Rap. Yokoo is famous for being unable to sing so the vocals aren't exactly pitch perfect but I still love this song for what it is. Also can I just say whoever decided to romanise Watta Bento as WATTER BENTO in the PV should be fired?

Translating this was surprisingly really hard because of all the different food names: I wasn't sure which to leave in Japanese since they're Japanese dishes, and which to "translate" to English equivalents. The translation notes are therefore mainly descriptions of various food items.

Once again I'd post the PV but Johnny's will probably already stab me for having their lyrics on the internet so woooooo. I can describe it though; Watta cooks a bunch of stuff then dances around with Senga. Honestly I was disappointed the other members didn't appear for their lines whilst actually looking at the food he was cooking. Instead they appeared in little picture bubbles of them during the recording session for the song. It felt a little like they'd spent 50000 yen buying food and then spent only 500 yen on the actual PV itself. But I suppose if Watta wanted this kind of PV I have to live with it.

I've colour coded the song for the member parts because why not. Grey = everyone except Yokoo.

“You guys, don’t waste any food!”(8)

TRANSLATION NOTES
(1) Perhaps "the kitchen is my playground" would make more sense, but I've left this as stage because he's a performer  and it's basically teasing him a bit for not being good at singing or dancing but being good in the kitchen.

(2) This really says “dance” twice but using two different ways to say it. I’m not sure what the difference between the two are and when I google it feels like Japanese people have different ideas as to whether they’re just synonyms or not.

(3) Tenpu is a type of dried meat/fish that looks a bit like candy floss. It’s also called rousong if you want to google it! In Japan they usually use fish and it’s often dyed pink using food colouring so sometimes gets called “sakura tenpu” like in this song.

(4) A pun on the fact Yokoo Wataru's member colour is orange, and in Japanese orange is spelled beginning with "ore", which is the masculine way of saying "I".

(5) Shishamo is a type of saltwater fish

(6) Kinpira is a Japanese cooking technique which is basically where you sauté and then simmer something. I actually have no idea what sauté means. Oh, apparently it's when you make the ingredients jump up and down in the pan! You learn something new every day. Thanks Yokoo.

(7) This is basically a bunch of food that's hard to translate into English. Gomaisho is a condiment made with sesame seeds and salt. Mentai/Mentaiko is a type of fish, or, according to wikipedia, it's specifically "marinated roe of pollock and cod ". Onigiri comes from the verb nigiru, to mould into a shape, so it's another play on words

(8) Literally "don't leave anything behind"

Kitayama Hiromitsu (Kis-My-Ft2) - Ima Nani wo Omou no

Ima nani wo omou no is Kitayama Hiromitsu’s solo song from Kis-My-Ft2’s 2016 album, I SCREAM. Written and composed by Kitayama himself, it’s a simple love song with a piano background that he wrote years ago and hasn’t recorded until now. He performed it on an episode of Kis-My-Ft2’s variety show, Kis-My BUSAIKU!?, the theme of which was confessing to your ex girlfriend at her wedding. He got 7th place in the ranking because it was cheesy and really embarrassing. That’s not to say it isn’t a good song, it’s quite bittersweet and very pleasant to listen to! But sometimes when I hear it I picture him standing in front of Maiko in a suit and singing this really slow sad song and I start to laugh.

There’s no PV for this song because he chose to make a PV for FIRE!! Instead.

This song was surprisingly pretty easy to translate but you have to have some poetic justice when doing so since a lot of things seem implied rather than explicitly stated. Oh Japanese.

About the title, certain parts are written in katakana which is usually done for emphasis, but I’m not really sure how to translate that into English because I’m not sure if he’s trying to actually emphasise anything or if he just liked the way it looked in katakana. Which is entirely a possibility.

今ナニヲ想ウノ

北山宏光(Kis-My-Ft2)

作詞:HusiQ.K
作曲:HusiQ.K

What are you thinking now?

Stop being so kind to me
It’s too painful
I’ve already forgotten about my words from that day
“This relationship is bittersweet” (1)
When I close my eyes, my thoughts are overflowing with you
Your kindness, your warmth
Time stopped moving for me on that day (2)

Why did I why did I fall in love with you
Even now even now Why?
Is that okay?
Please cry and laugh again, because I’ll be by your side
I’m fine with even just that...

Why did I why did I fall in love with you
Even now even now Why?
Let me forget you
All I do is search for your empty shell (3)
I still love you... (4)

Why did I why did I fall in love with you
Even now, even now Why?
Is that okay?
Please laugh and cry again, because I’ll be by your side
I’m fine with even just that…

What are you thinking now?

TRANSLATION NOTES that I always write in capital letters in my document and have to change when I get to blogger:

  1. Literally says “Bittersweet” but I’m guessing these are the words he used to break up with someone, meaning he’s already forgotten about feeling this way.
  2. Literally “the hand on my clock stopped ticking”
  3. Weiblo and the like say this can be used to mean someone is a shadow of their former self, so probably the breakup was really hard on her and he knows this.
  4. The “と” after 愛してる implies there should be some sort of verb after it, like “I want to say I love you”. So it’s implying he’s searching for her to tell her he still loves her, but it’s not explicitly stated.

Nikaido Takahashi (Kis-My-Ft2) - Jossie Matsumura no SCREAM

Look at me translating things that aren't from the 80s!

Jossie Matsumura no SCREAM is the last song on disc 2 of Kis-My-Ft2's 2016 album, I SCREAM. It was literally out like 2 weeks ago so my translation probably sucks but there you go. It's a solo song by Nikaido Takashi describing the love of a fangirl for his fellow group member, Tamamori Yuta. It's composed by ERIK SMAALAND who apparently enjoys having his name in all caps as if he's yelling, and written by Jossie Matsumura. Ie Nikaido.

This is a really interesting song with an interesting theme so I'd recommend it if you want to hear something a bit different but if you're not particularly a Kisumai fan you might not really enjoy it as you'll have no clue what's going on. The PV is funny, however, and stars Nikaido as Jossie Matsumura herself along with Tamamori as Moritama Yudai (a guy at Jossie's school who looks exactly like Tamamori) and Senga as Tamamori's girlfriend.

I would post the PV to my blog but Johnny's would probably hunt me down with pitchforks. Please look it up if you're interested though. It is the greatest PV of all time.

Translation Notes that I can never get to format properly

(1) The official romaji on the English Johnny’s website is Josshii but I went with Jossie instead. Why? Because I can. (Actually I don't like how Josshii looks and they've also romaji'd Watta as Wattaa which is technically correct but nobody actually refers to him as that in English, so romaji is a personal choice, really).

(2) 冴えない means plain, ugly, boring, uninteresting, so there’s nothing about her that sets her apart from other girls. I translated it differently in these places because I thought it would fit better

(3) This was really hard to translate. 降臨 means ascent and ジャニーズ公認 literally means Johnny’s official recognition, but it doesn’t literally mean that she’s such a big fan that Johnny’s have officially recognised it or anything. Apparently this is something Johnny’s fans write on social media and I’m not 100% sure what it means but it’s a bit like saying you’re XX’s biggest fan and nobody else loves them more than  you do. So essentially she likes Tamachan and Johnny’s so much she’s ascended to the level where everyone recognises it. If someone else has a better way of translating or explaining this please explain it to me!!

(4) Literally means “it’s a serious illness” like, her love for Tamachan is a serious illness (I love how I’m referring to Jossie Matsumura as if she is a real person)

C-C-B - Romantic ga Tomaranai

C-C-B were a rock band from the 1980s who I know literally nothing about other than the fact one of them had pink hair and this was their 3rd single, released on 25/01/1985. This is a translation blog not Wikipedia!!

Also C-C-B apparently stands for Coconut Boys. Wonderful.

I don't remember where I first heard this song but it's really catchy and I would recommend it! Also I really need to fix the formatting of my translation notes because I'm pretty sure it's different on every single post I make.

Please enjoy the video!!!

Romanticが止まらない

作詞:松本隆
作曲:筒美京平

長いキスの途中で (Fu-Fu さりげなく)
首飾りを外した (Fu-Fu 指さきで)
友だちの領域(エリア)から
はみだした君の青いハイヒール

誰か Romantic 止めて Romantic
胸が胸が苦しくなる
惑う瞳に甘く溺れて
Hold me tight せつなさは止まらない

壁のラジオ絞って (Fu-Fu しどけなく)
遊びなのと聞いたね (Fu-Fu ささやいて)
言葉では答えない
抱いた手に力こめる Tonight

誰か Romantic 止めて Romantic
息が息が燃えるようさ
同じ孤独を抱いて生きたね
今夜一人では眠れない

誰か Romantic 止めて Romantic
胸が胸が苦しくなる
走る涙に背中押されて
Hold me tight せつなさは止まらない

Romance Can’t be Stopped (1)

In the middle of a long kiss (Fu-Fu You casually)
Took off your necklace (Fu-Fu Using your fingertips)
Those blue high heels of yours
Forced me to look at you as more than a friend (2)

Someone stop this romance this romance

My heart, my heart, becomes painful
I sweetly drown in those puzzled eyes of yours (3)
Hold me tight, this heartbreak won’t end

Turning down the radio on the wall (Fu-Fu anxiously)
You asked me if I was fooling around (Fu-fu in a whisper)
I can’t answer you using words so
Tonight, I’ll put all my strength into grasping your hand

Someone stop this romance, stop this romance
My breaths my breaths feel like they’re burning me (4)
We lived whilst holding onto the same loneliness, didn’t we?
I can’t sleep alone tonight

Someone stop this romance, stop this romance
My heart my heart becomes painful
Tears stream down my face and push me forwards (5)
Hold me tight this heartbreak can’t be stopped

Translation Notes

  1. Yes I know it says Romantic but that makes no sense in English and every English translation of the title I’ve seen says Romance.
  2. This line says that the blue high heels took her out of the “area” of being a friend, so basically he had one of those “wow you’re a WOMAN!!!” Moments you often see in movies and the likes when he saw her in high heels. I really wanted to write “forced you out of the friendzone”, believe me, I did.
  3. This says “nearly sweetly drown” but that sounds odd in English. I just typed English wrong about 5 times and I need a lie down now.
  4. This says “my breaths feel like they’re burning” which I guess means the burning sensation you get in your chest when you’re crying a lot?
  5. Literally says “running tears” but who says that in English. I don’t even think people say this in Japanese.
