Busaiku - Teeteeteeteretetereteeteetee ~Dare no ketsu~

Teeteeteeterete tereteeteetee ~Whose arse~ is the 2nd single released by Busaiku on 27th July 2014. Yes, that is the real title of the song. Busaiku are a subunit of the group Kis My Ft 2 (yes that is their real name) consisting of the 4 "back" members of the group who get less exposure than the main 3 members - Fujigaya Taisuke, Tamamori Yuta, and Kitayama Hiromitsu. Nakai Masahiro from SMAP noticed the odd split in the group wherein the back 4 members have to wear slightly differing outfits from the rest of the group and get little to know singing parts. Apparently we're supposed to believe they're all too untalented enough to get at least a solo line every so often (I mean, I can deal with Yokoo not getting a solo line because cats would probably die, but still).

Oh well, if Johnny's made any sense whatsoever I wouldn't have had anything interesting to say in my dissertation.

Moving on. Nakai wrote and composed this song with the Miyashita Brothers, who apparently also wrote Marumaru Morimori and for some reason are credited on this single as 宮下工務店. I also don't know if they're called the Miyashita Brothers in English, but they are now. I thoroughly enjoy this song even if it's insane, but Nakai wrote a song called Toilet Paperman about how people always go to the bathroom during his solo corner in SMAP concerts, so I'm not sure what I was expecting.

Enjoy the glory of 144p youtube videos.

てぃーてぃーてぃーてれって てれてぃてぃてぃ 〜だれのケツ〜 Teeteeteeterete tereteeteetee -Whose arse-  [1] [2]

作詞:なかいさん・宮下工務店
作曲:なかいさん・宮下工務店

Teeteetee terete A pig’s arse ! Ai! [3]
Teeteeteei terete A monkey’s arse! ai!
A horse’s arse! Ai!
My arse! Ai!
Teeteetee terete tere teeteetee Ai!

Being split into two like this, it’s like a butt and (we hate it hate it) [4] [5]
Let’s all walk together holding hands and smiling (tiitiitiitiitii)
Even important people, even stupid people
The fact their butts are split in two doesn't change
We’re full of determination to become one
But even now the 3 of them are (in perfect form) [6]

Teeteetee terete A pig’s arse ! Ai! [3]
Teeteeteei terete A monkey’s arse! ai!
A horse’s arse! Ai!
My arse! Ai!

That guy is scary

Our senior is scary [7]
He talks much more than the rest of us
Someday we’ll be rendered speechless [8]

The painful things too
The fun things too
The sad things too
We wanna savor them together!

Is it true that we’re all just so-so?
Isn’t it fine that we’re only so-so?
It’s because we’re here that those in first place are able to shine [9]
Teeteetee terete tere teeteetee Ai!

Our popularity and our faces are so-so
As well as our singing and our dramas
Everything about us is so-so but
We’re always happy
We’re always smiling
So please be nice to us about it!

Teeteetee terete A pig’s arse ! Ai! [3]
Teeteeteei terete A monkey’s arse! ai!
A horse’s arse! Ai!
My arse! Ai!

1 2 1 2 3 4 5 Busaiku!
If I could...if I could only cast a spell
I’d wish that the world would get along for just once
I’ll try casting a spell!
Piropiro panitan suuri suuri [10]
Piropiro panitan suuri suuri
Piropiro panitan suuri suuri

Is it true that we’re all just so-so?
Isn’t it fine that we’re only so-so?
It’s because we’re here that those in first place are able to shine
Teeteeteeterete tere teeteetee Ai!

Even if people get mad at us, we won’t give in
We won’t give in, even if they insult us
We won’t be beaten by anyone else in
Wanting to become number one
Even our salaries are so-so
But we still ride in luxury cars! [11]

Teeteetee terete A pig’s arse ! Ai!
Teeteetee terete A monkey’s arse! ai!
A horse’s arse! Ai!
My arse! Ai!
Gaya’s arse! Ai! [12]
Kita’s arse! Ai!
Tama’s arse! Ai!
My arse! Ai!
My arse! Ai!

Translation Notes

[1,2] This title is made up noises and is ridiculous and has therefore been left this way. It could be tee or tii, whichever you like that sounds like the letter T.
I’ve translated ketsu as arse rather than ass because I’m from the UK and it sounds better.

[3] “ai!” in this case doesn’t have much meaning other than being a random cry in the background, a bit like saying “hey!” in an English song.

[4] Oshiri is a less colloquial way of saying arse which is why I’ve used butt instead here.

[5,6,9] These lines refer to the “separation” of the members of Kis My Ft 2 into the “front 3” members who get a and the “back 4” members - see the start of the post for more info.[9] is a running joke in Busaiku songs about how those at the top only look good because Busaiku are there being so-so.

[7] I’m not sure if these lines refer to Nakai being scary, the other 3 members of Kisumai being scary, or seniors on TV etc being scary to them. But it’s Nakai appearing at this point in the PV..Also I translated aniki as senior rather than elder brother because the latter sounds odd in English.

[8] I’m not entirely sure if this means “we’ll be rendered speechless” or “we’ll render THEM speechles” like, at the moment they’re being talked over but it’ll change some day?

[10]  I’m pretty sure this literally has no meaning and is just how Nakai has decided you cast a spell. I mean, abracadabra could have worked but Nakai just wanted to be weird.

[11] According to a google search people were confused about the meaning of this line, so what luck do I have.. Basically, despite Busaiku’s salaries supposedly being low, because they’re idols they’re able to be driven around in luxury cars. Someone on yahoo answers also points out that Nakai (who wrote this song) is referring to a time where he was supposedly paid less than Kimutaku (the most popular SMAP member) but that things still turned out fine for him - AKA he is encouraging his kouhai by saying it’s fine, you still get to ride luxury cars even if you’re completely pish at everything. I don’t know how true it would be that Nakai got paid less that Kimutaku, though - at least, it would have had to had been LONG ago since at some point Nakai actually started earning more.

[12] Gaya, Kita, and Tama = Fujigaya, Kitayama, and Tamamori.

I'm sorry this post has a slightly different formatting for the translation notes, I translated this song before I posted some of the other translations....

Kondo Masahiko - Orokamono

Orokamono (Fool) is the 23rd single released by Kondo Masahiko (better known as Matchy), in 1987, two years before his girlfriend Nakamori Akina tried to commit suicide after he cheated on her and broke off their relationship. Fitting title, then.

It was written by Ijiun Shizuka (lyrics) and Inoue Takayuki (composition). Hagiwara Kenichi also collaborated on this song and I highly suggest Youtubing his performance because it is hilarious and he always sounds drunk. Good on you, Kenichi.

Orokamono won the Japan Record Award in 1987. However, someone was not happy about Matchy's nomination and stole the ashes from his recently deceased mother's grave. To this day the culprit nor the ashes have been found. Obviously as this was a completely horrible thing to happen, it's said Johnny's and Associates have since made the decision not to accept nominations for any music based awards (except for 1988, when Hikaru Genji won the award).

Anyhow, this is a great song well deserving of the Japan Record Award, even if parts of the lyrics really do not make any sense. I tried my best with it but I'm not happy with this translation at all, really.

Fool

I’m such a fool

I’ll accept all of the tears you’ve shed
I’m such a fool
Bury your face into my chest
And sleep well tonight

Women yearn for their unfulfilled dreams
Whilst men get lost in them
Try putting on some lipstick
After all, lies are the only true thing in life
That’s just how life is(1)

Come on, clutch the golden and silver chalice
Filled with the poison of sin and punishment
This fool runs around town
Come here, clutch the golden and silver chalice
And drink the poison of sin and punishment
Right here in the bar of fools(2)

I’m such a fool
I’ll search for the time you lost
I’m such a fool
Leave your dreams in my arms
And sleep well tonight

Come on, clutch the golden and silver chalice
Filled with the poison of sin and punishment
This fool runs around town
Come here, clutch the golden and silver chalice
And drink the poison of sin and punishment
Right here in the bar of fools

Men always look back on the time they’ve lost
Whilst women erase it from their minds
Wearing a mask when facing the world
After all, joy is the only truth in life (3)

I’m such a fool
I’m such a fool
Sleep well tonight Translation Notes

1) This line is more like "when/if you put on some lipstick" but I have no idea what that has to do with the only truth in life being lies. Actually screw that I don't have any idea what it has to do with the next line even in the way I've translated it. I guess the song is meant to be about a guy who broke a girl's heart and so he's telling her to get on with life by putting on lipstick and faking it, as lies are the only way to get through life?

2) I don't even know. I suppose he's getting drunk. In a bar. To forget his pain. This song makes no sense and I am sorry. 3) Technically just says "wearing a mask" but I thought I should specify I think this means putting on a brave face and not literally dressing up like the hulk by using a mask. The same applies here as for 1, too - what has joy being the only truth got to do with putting on a brave face?! In conclusion I don't really understand this song but I at least got to be poetic with the chalice nonsense.

Moritaka Chisato - Korekkiri Bye Bye

Wow look I managed to make a second blog post so my blog isn't just barren apart from one SMAP song! Everyone celebrte!

This is a song by Moritaka Chisato, a famous idol from the 80s/90s more well known for her song 私がオバさんになっても ("Even when I'm an old lady") that she sings literally all the time on music shows. She writes lyrics for a heck ton of her songs, and I am pretty much sure she did for this one as well.

These days she tends to upload covers of herself singing her various songs on Youtube, or else MC for big music shows such as FNS Kayousai. She also has a really good looking husband and they're the cutest couple of all time.

She does have more than that one song however and they are very catchy, such as this number from her 1989 album 非実力派宣言, the title of which I cannot be bothered translating even though it would literally take me two seconds to hover over it with Rikaichan. Oh well.

I absolutely adore this song even though it is quite possibly the most 80s thing of all time and everyone reading this blog will judge me terribly if they can be bothered to click the play button on the following video.

TRANSLATION NOTES

[1] The だい (“big”) is technically the part of 大嫌い that means “really” as in “I REALLY hate you” (literally “BIG HATE”), but for the purposes of the rhythm of the song, I've chosen to write “hate” rather than the literal translation of “big” over and over.

[2] Again here, saying いやもう/もういや/いやだ is more like saying “Urk, I can’t stand this thing/person (any more)” or an exclamation of disgust. But to make it fit with the song I've translated it as simply “no”

[3] Admittedly I COULD have made this sound more polite by saying “you've annoyed me” and “go away”, but hey, the song is about absolutely detesting someone and part of translation is interpretation! Usually I don’t like when people put random swear lyrics in their translations but now I have become one of these people. Oops.

[4] When I first heard this song I felt like she was sarcastically saying “oh, how NICE it is YOU feel refreshed! I'm SO jealous!” but whilst I was translating the actual song it didn't seem to fit in with the rest of the lyrics. Therefore I'm not entirely sure if I've translated this section properly. Please forgive me and if you have any suggestions whatsoever feel free to leave a comment to discuss.

There are various parts in the song that aren't in the official lyrics that are of Chisato in the background saying things like “I can’t stand it any more (see translation note 2)” and the beginning “I don’t like this”. I've included them as much as I can, but I might have missed something or put it in the wrong place so if you notice let me know!
